You’ll find quite a few unique game jam opportunities here, as well as a paid freelancing gig for any games journalists. What’s more, you’ll have a chance to get directly involved in a wonderful charity — just by playing a few games. There’s even a free workshop for any would-be developers! Basically? You’re not going to want to miss any of these.

Audiogame Jam
“Audiogame Jam is a fundraising game jam for the the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), a UK-based charity for those affected by sight loss. The main aims of the jam are to raise money for RNIB through interesting, fun games playable by people of any level of sight.”
By celebrating the development of accessible games — which, quite frankly, we all desperately need more of — the Audiogame Jam hopes to raise money for a wonderful charity. You don’t have to join the game jam to donate, however! We’re very eager to see all the incredible games that come out of this particular jam. They’re doing great work, and it’s definitely something to be celebrated!
Enbyjam
“We aim to showcase the talents and works of nonbinary creators in the indie game development sphere. The jam is a little over a week, bookended by two weekends, in order to give participants enough time to give it their best.”
Next up is another game jam celebrating the work of diverse developers. By providing a platform for nonbinary creators, we’re one step closer to truly diversifying this industry. The way this jam works is a bit different than most, however, so take note of that! They recently released the last theme and you’ll have until Monday, August 15th, to finish if you decide to join.
Extraordinary Mind Games
“This program is a free six-week video game creation workshop for individuals who identify as Mad or who have lived experiences with mental health or addiction. Participants will meet once a week for this 6-week facilitated and themed workshop.”
If you live in or are able to travel to the Toronto area, this is an absolutely wonderful opportunity to learn more about the craft of making games! The workshop is being provided as a space for anyone who has experiences with mental illness and/or addiction. It’s a totally free program, and will take place once a week for six weeks starting August 31st.
HELP: The Game
“HELP: The Game is a project which brings together the top developers, studios and gaming industry superstars — all to raise money for children in war.”
For a modest price, you’ll be supporting an incredible charity by purchasing HELP: The Game, a bundle that includes a whopping 12 games. The charity is called War Child, and they’re working to protect children all across the world whose lives were displaced by war and conflict. These games also deal with this subject in some form or another, which offers a rare opportunity to both learn about and play through this experience.
Polygon Freelance Reviewers
“We want to fill more and more gaps in our collective interests and experience. Currently, we’re often interested in assigning slightly more obscure or less mainstream titles on platforms like PC, though we will also have some console assignments available.”
We’ve covered job openings at Polygon before, but this one is of particular interest for all of you.
